Samsung Electronics has revealed the weight and specifications of its first smart glasses, which it plans to launch in the second half of the year.

IT publication SamMobile reported exclusively on Oct. 12 (local time) that the glasses, developed by Samsung with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, weigh about 41 grams with standard lenses.

Earlier reports from South Korean media put the weight at 46 grams, while renders leaked in April suggested it would be about 50 grams. Prescription lenses add a little weight, depending on the model.

Samsung unveiled the product as “Intelligent Eyewear” at its Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22 and said it would launch by the end of the year. Overseas media have referred to them as “Galaxy Glasses,” but Samsung has yet to announce the official product name.

Glasses without a display, AI you hear

According to SamMobile, the glasses feature a first-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 12-megapixel camera, 3K video recording at 30 frames per second, two open-ear speakers and four microphones.

The glasses offer up to nine hours of battery life on their own, or up to 72 hours with the charging case. The glasses are splash-resistant to IPX4 standards; the case is not water-resistant.

Rather than displaying images on the lenses, the glasses use their camera and microphones to capture what the wearer sees and hears. Google’s Gemini AI processes that information and responds through the speakers.

At Unpacked, Samsung demonstrated features including live translation of foreign-language menus and conversations with people speaking other languages; photographing whiteboards and meetings and organizing the content in a notes app; and remembering earlier conversations so users can pick them up later. The glasses can also handle phone calls, play music and provide directions. In South Korea, they support voice-guided navigation through Naver Map.

The operating system is Android XR, developed jointly by Samsung and Google. The glasses connect to Galaxy S and Z series phones running One UI 9 or later, as well as Galaxy watches running Wear OS 7 or later. They can also establish a basic connection with other Android phones and iPhones.

16 Gentle Monster styles, 10 Warby Parker styles

Designs vary by partner brand. Gentle Monster will offer 16 styles, combining six shapes—cat-eye, round, square, square bold, oval and slim oval—with black, burgundy, cream, light gray and pale lilac colors and different lens tints.

Warby Parker will offer 10 styles in three shapes—Alden, Wren and Reed—with jet black, pine (dark green) and saddle (reddish brown) colors. Each model will be available with clear lenses or as sunglasses and will come with a navy charging case.

Availability will also vary by brand. Gentle Monster models will be sold in South Korea and the United States, while Warby Parker models will be available only in the United States. They will be sold through each brand’s website and stores, as well as at Samsung Experience Stores in the United States. Prescription lenses can be ordered through the Gentle Monster website in the U.S. and fitted at optical stores in South Korea. Samsung has set the minimum age for the service at 18.

November sales rumored; price not yet announced

SamMobile reported that the glasses are scheduled to go on sale in November. Samsung has not announced an exact release date or price. SamMobile and Android Central previously raised the possibility of a separate event in November.

The main competing product is Meta Ray-Ban. The third-generation Ray-Ban Meta starts at $449 in the United States and offers up to nine hours of battery life on its own, or up to 50 hours with the case. Notebookcheck compared the leaked specifications and said Samsung’s glasses offer longer battery life with the case, but have two fewer microphones.
