Samsung Electronics is expanding the languages understood by Galaxy AI and Bixby. On the 14th, the company announced that it would increase the number of languages supported by key Galaxy AI features to 24 and by Bixby to 12.

This will allow more people to use Galaxy AI features—including device controls, interpretation and search—in their own languages.

Interpretation and calling features add Malay and Hungarian

Malay and Hungarian will be added to the 22 languages supported by Call Assist, Note Assist, Interpreter and Transcript Assist, features that help users understand language and organize information.

Users will be able to translate and summarize text, convert speech to text, and interpret phone calls in real time in more languages. For example, people from South Korea traveling to Malaysia or Hungary can use the interpretation feature in the local language.

Now Nudge, which recognizes context on the screen and suggests actions suited to a user’s situation, will expand its language support from 16 to 24. The eight additions are Gujarati, Dutch, Romanian, Malay, Swedish, Turkish, Filipino and Hungarian.

The 24 languages supported by Galaxy AI are Gujarati, Dutch, German, Russian, Romanian, Malay, Vietnamese, Spanish, Swedish, Arabic, English, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Turkish, Portuguese, Polish, French, Filipino, Korean, Hungarian and Hindi.

English is supported in Australia, India, the United Kingdom and the United States; Spanish in Mexico, Spain and the United States; Chinese in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan; Portuguese in Brazil and Portugal; and French in Canada and France. Samsung said that not all accents and dialects are recognized, and that performance may vary depending on pronunciation, volume and the surrounding environment.

Bixby supports 12 languages starting on the 14th

Polish, Thai and Vietnamese have been added to the nine languages already supported by Bixby, Galaxy devices’ control agent, bringing the total to 12.

The supported languages are German, Vietnamese, Spanish, English, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Portuguese, Polish, French and Korean.

Users can make requests in everyday language without knowing the exact name of a setting or where to find it in the menus. Bixby requires users to sign in to a Samsung account and have a data connection. Its use may be restricted during video playback or gaming, while on a call, in maximum power-saving mode, in Emergency mode, or in Samsung Kids.

Bixby’s new languages will be available starting on the 14th. New Galaxy AI languages will roll out gradually from the end of October, and some may require users to download a language pack in the Settings app. The detailed rollout schedule and available features may vary by country and device.

Galaxy AI launched in January 2024 with the Galaxy S24 series and support for 13 languages. In October of that year, four languages, including Dutch, were added, bringing the total to 20. The number subsequently grew to 22 and is now expanding to 24. More information is available on the Bixby and Galaxy AI pages on Samsung.com.
