Naver will hold its biggest shopping event of the second half of the year, “Nupda Sale,” on the Naver Plus Store for two weeks, from October 26 through November 8.
More than 13,000 stores are taking part, up 30% from a year ago, with around 10 million products on special offer.
Discount coupons will be released on a first-come, first-served basis three times a day. The opening day is designated “Membership Day,” with extra rewards and exclusive coupons available only to Naver Plus Membership members. Nupda Sale first launched in the second half of last year, when sales topped 1 trillion won. The event also exceeded 1 trillion won in sales in the first half of this year.
◆ 10 million products, with coupons released three times a day
The event spans categories ranging from digital devices and home appliances to food, fashion, children’s products and everyday essentials. It will also feature exclusive products and brand collaborations available only on the Naver Plus Store.
The “relay special sale,” which offers a daily selection of popular products from leading brands, kicks off on October 26 with digital devices and home appliances from Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Apple and Dyson. On October 27, the focus shifts to children’s and parenting products from brands including Huggies, Britax and Lego, alongside 10% in Baby Voucher rewards. Leading brands from categories such as everyday essentials, fashion, beauty, and furniture and home goods will take turns through November 8.
Coupons for 5%, 7% and 10% off will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis at midnight, 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day. Depending on the purchase amount, shoppers can save up to 70,000 won. During the first-half event, coupons were issued only once a day, at midnight.
The number of products in the “Taegi” collaboration, which sold out during the previous event, has grown to more than 30. Taegi is a character from the Naver Plus Store. Customers who buy products such as Listerine, Maeil Soy Milk or Dolce Gusto will receive gifts including Taegi bath mats, sports towels and mugs.
◆ Opening day is “Membership Day”—rewards and coupons for members
One notable feature of the event is its membership benefits. Naver has designated October 26, the first day of the sale, as “Membership Day.” Naver Plus Membership members who spend at least 200,000 won will receive an extra 3% in rewards.
The membership-only grocery service Kurly N Mart will also offer a 30% discount coupon that day. The membership-exclusive “Super Rewards” and “Super Deals” sections will feature beauty and fashion brands including Santa Maria Novella, Kiehl’s, Adidas Underwear and Crocs.
The event will also include a membership recruitment offer. People with no membership sign-up in the past month who newly join during the event will be offered a three-month free membership, while supplies last. Naver Plus Membership costs 4,900 won per month, compared with 7,890 won per month for Coupang Wow Membership. Naver said the offer may end early.
The numbers help explain why Naver is concentrating benefits on members. During the Nupda Sale held in the first half of this year, from June 22 to July 5, membership members accounted for 78% of sales, and their average spending was more than twice that of other users.
At its second-quarter earnings announcement in August, Naver said that around 80% of buyers on the Naver Plus Store app were membership members, and that members accounted for more than 70% of total transaction value.
◆ Nupda Sale tops 1 trillion won in sales for a second consecutive event
Nupda Sale surpassed 1 trillion won in cumulative sales at its inaugural event in the second half of last year. From October 29 to November 11 last year, more than 10,000 brands showcased 4.9 million products, and average daily sales reached 77.2 billion won. Transaction value for small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sellers who took part rose 32% from the same period a year earlier. Sales also topped 1 trillion won at this year’s first-half event.
This year’s second-half event is larger still. The number of products has more than doubled, from 4.9 million last year to around 10 million, while the number of participating stores has risen 30% year over year to more than 13,000.
Naver’s commerce business has continued to grow. Second-quarter consolidated revenue this year reached 3.3888 trillion won, up 16.2% from a year earlier. Service revenue increased 31.3%, supported by expansion of the Naver Plus Store, membership and N Delivery. Over the same period, transaction value on Smart Store rose 15.5%, while transaction value on the Naver Plus Store app grew by more than 35%. Naver said in June that the app had surpassed 8 million monthly users.
