The funds will mainly be used for emergency restoration of damaged facilities and relief for evacuees, helping prevent secondary damage.
Local governments plan to execute the budget swiftly by using the “use before budget approval” system.
Minister Yoon Ho-jung said the monsoon season has not ended, urging people to check weather information frequently and refrain from entering dangerous areas.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 10th that it will urgently provide 2.1 billion won in special disaster and safety management grants to six cities and provinces damaged by the heavy rain that fell from the 8th.
The recipients are Daejeon Metropolitan City, Sejong Special Self-Governing City, Gyeonggi Province, North Chungcheong Province, South Chungcheong Province, and North Gyeongsang Province.
The decision was made to speed up emergency recovery in the rain-hit areas. The funds will mainly be used for emergency restoration of damaged facilities and relief for evacuees, among other measures to prevent secondary damage.
The special disaster and safety management grant is a purpose-specific budget allocated by the ministry to local governments to support disaster and safety-related projects. It is used for emergency disaster recovery, prevention, and strengthening safety infrastructure.
Local governments plan to quickly execute the budget by utilizing the “use before budget approval” system under Article 45 of the Local Finance Act. This system allows disaster response spending before a supplementary budget is approved by the local council.
“Local governments and related agencies should do their utmost to carry out emergency recovery so as to minimize inconvenience for residents in the affected areas,” Minister Yoon said. “The government will spare no necessary support to ensure that recovery from this rain damage proceeds quickly.”
Yoon also said, “As the monsoon season is not over yet, I ask the public to regularly check weather information and strictly follow safety precautions, such as avoiding dangerous areas.”
