The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Ahn Deok-geun) announced that on the 16th, it held a joint meeting with related ministries to discuss the ‘Manufacturing AX (Advanced Transformation) Plan’ chaired by First Vice Minister Moon Sin-hak.
This meeting was prepared as part of a policy collaboration to create tangible added value by integrating AI technology into manufacturing and production sites and to significantly expand AI demand. The meeting was attended by eight ministries, including the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Financial Services Commission, and the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
First Vice Minister Moon Sin-hak emphasized, “Only when AI technology penetrates from research sites and data centers to manufacturing sites, a true AI powerhouse is achieved,” and stressed the necessity of close cooperation between ministries for the AI transformation of the manufacturing industry. He also stated, “We will consolidate the policy capabilities of related ministries and make every effort to become one of the top three global AI powerhouses.”
During the meeting, each ministry shared their ongoing status and field challenges related to the Manufacturing AX within their jurisdiction, and discussions were held on projects requiring inter-ministerial cooperation.
The Ministry of Industry plans to establish a ‘Manufacturing AI Expansion Task Force’ internally to enhance the effectiveness of the Manufacturing AX policy. The task force will consist of three AI experts at the director level (Team Leader Shin Yong-min, Deputy Leaders Song Young-jin and Kwon Soon-mok) who are hands-on talents with majors in electrical and electronic control and computer engineering.
The task force will take the lead in massively expanding AI transformation across the manufacturing industry by jointly designing policies with related ministries that can be practically applied on the manufacturing floor.
