Seongbuk-gu in Seoul announced that the ‘Walking Path Information Collection Specialist’ task force of the Seongbuk Senior Club has been selected as an excellent model for senior employment at the ‘2025 Excellent Model and 2026 New Item Awards Ceremony’, hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and organized by the Korea Senior Employment Development Institute.
Amidst participation from 27 senior employment agencies nationwide, the Seongbuk Senior Club task force was recognized for its innovation in activities aimed at improving pedestrian environments for those with transportation disadvantages, earning the title of an excellent model.
The ‘Walking Path Information Collection Specialist’ project involves photographing buildings, roads, and other infrastructures within Seongbuk-gu and inputting relevant data into applications to gather data necessary for navigation development. This initiative is operated in a manner that encourages direct participation from transportation-impaired individuals such as the visually impaired and wheelchair users.
The participating seniors not only collect data but also play a role in community safety by reporting hazards such as road damage discovered during their activities.
Seung-ro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “Congratulations to the Seongbuk Senior Club for their excellent model award. We will support a healthy old age by creating diverse employment opportunities suited for the elderly.”
Bon-kyu Koo, the director of the Seongbuk Senior Club, expressed, “I hope this award will invigorate senior employment. We will continue to develop various jobs based on the experiences and knowledge of seniors.”
As of 2025, Seongbuk-gu provides jobs to 4,403 seniors. The Seongbuk Senior Club, as a dedicated agency, received a special award for being an excellent executing agency in the ‘Senior Employment and Social Activity Support Project’ in 2024.
