The international gastronomic event ‘2025 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ will be held in Seoul from March 22 to 26. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Seoul Metropolitan Government plan to strengthen the global status of Korean cuisine and further promote Korean food culture through this event.

‘Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ is an annual awards ceremony that selects the best restaurants in the Asian region and is recognized as authoritative as it is referred to as the Academy Awards of the culinary industry. In addition to the awards ceremony, this event will host the ‘50 Best Talks,’ where chefs and industry representatives will discuss global culinary trends, and the ‘Chef’s Feast,’ where invited chefs will experience Korean food.

This year’s ceremony will highlight the achievements of Korean restaurants. Among the restaurants ranked 51st to 100th in Asia, announced prior to the ceremony, are Bon & Bread (51st), Solbam (55th), Swanyee (57th), Alaprim (61st), Kwonsooksoo (62nd), and Jungsikdang (90th). It is expected that, along with ‘Mingles,’ a Korean restaurant that received three Michelin stars last year, many Korean restaurants will be in the top 50.

During the event, the Ministry of Agriculture will operate a Korean Food Talk Concert and a Culinary Market on March 25 at ‘Korea House’ to increase global interest in Korean cuisine. Chef Jongwon Son from ‘Ethanic Garden’ will give a lecture on the global potential of Korean cuisine at the talk concert. At the culinary market, famous chefs will present premium Korean dishes paired with traditional liquors.

Additionally, a Korean food workshop introducing traditional Korean food to foreign media and culinary industry representatives will be conducted. Chefs Heesook Jo and Doyun Kim from Korea House will introduce traditional Korean table settings and cutlery culture, presenting the essence of Korean cuisine through demonstrations.

Juwon Chul, Director of the Food Industry Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, stated, “This event is an important opportunity to promote Korean cuisine globally and expand the growth potential of the food service industry.” He added, “We will continue to strive for the globalization of Korean cuisine and support the dining industry.”

The event draws attention to whether the Korean culinary culture can establish itself globally.
