The Ministry of Science and ICT to Promote 2025 Blockchain Support Project, Selecting 11 Tasks in Healthcare, Distribution, and Public Administration

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency announced on the 7th that they will officially promote the “2025 Blockchain Support Project” to realize the daily application of blockchain technology. This project aims to expand the application of blockchain-based innovative technologies centered on services with high public impact.

This year, the project will be conducted on a scale of 12.4 billion won, supporting a total of 11 projects, including 2 public and 3 private sector projects selected in the first round, and 6 additional private sector projects selected in the second round.

In the public sector, projects include Busan City’s ‘blockchain-based battery passport platform’ and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute’s ‘virtual hospital service.’ Busan plans to establish a system that can manage the entire lifecycle of electric vehicle batteries, from production to disposal, using blockchain, and will conduct demonstrations targeting 2,500 electric vehicles and battery companies within the region.

The virtual hospital service is a platform that integrates telemedicine, electronic prescriptions, pharmaceutical delivery, and indemnity insurance claims into one system, initially expanding from Daegu nationwide.

In the private sector, included projects are a performance booking system to prevent ticket scalping, a food distribution history management platform, and an automated carbon credit trading platform. AhnLab Blockchain Company is developing a ticketing infrastructure compatible with existing booking systems, enabling tracking from ticket creation to validation based on blockchain technology.

Block Odyssey is developing a distribution history platform that records the entire process of food production, processing, export, and consumption, with functionalities to comply with the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA 204). Lead Point Systems will automate the entire carbon credit trading process in the transport sector using blockchain, enhancing transparency and efficiency.

Other projects include a digital gift certificate system for preventing illegal distribution, a participatory community-based opinion polling system, a foreigner residency administration and credit inquiry support platform, a descriptive and essay-type automatic grading platform, and a public-private integrated digital wallet platform.

Song Sang-hoon, Director of the Information and Communication Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Science and ICT, emphasized, “This project, being pushed forward based on fields closely linked to the public’s daily life and the entire industry, such as healthcare, distribution, and culture, will serve as a catalyst for the everyday application of blockchain,” and stated, “Blockchain is a core technology for digital trust and the foundation of the digital asset ecosystem, so we will continue to actively support the growth of innovative companies and the spread of the ecosystem.”
