OpenAI has significantly enhanced the memory function of its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, by introducing a new feature that automatically remembers past conversations with users and incorporates them into future interactions.
This update, announced on the 10th (local time), is designed to enable ChatGPT to provide more natural and personalized conversations based on information obtained from previous dialogues. Users will no longer need to repeatedly explain background information, as the AI learns from previous conversations and utilizes this information appropriately.
For instance, if users mentioned in past conversations that they are baseball fans or follow a vegetarian diet, the AI can remember this information and provide more precise related questions or advice in future interactions.
Users can freely control the memory function. In the settings menu under ‘Personalization,’ they can disable the memory function or selectively delete specific items. An ‘Incognito Chat Mode’ is also supported, allowing privacy-conscious users to use the service with confidence without leaving a trace of their interactions.
The feature will be available first to paid subscribers, ChatGPT Pro and Plus users, from April 10, with manual memory storage functionality to be offered to free users at a later date. However, in certain regions such as the UK, EU, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland, implementation is temporarily on hold due to local regulatory reviews.

OpenAI expects this update to significantly enhance ChatGPT’s practical application and personalized use across various fields such as writing, learning, problem-solving, and providing advice. However, it is crucial for users to be aware of and adjust their settings regarding how shared information is stored and utilized.
