The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) has directly visited early-stage export companies possessing digital twin technology to assess the effectiveness of export support based on intellectual property.

On April 3, KIPO held an on-site meeting at the headquarters of EYATE Co., Ltd., located in Songpa-gu, Seoul. During the meeting, they listened to the company’s export challenges and discussed ways to reflect these in policies. This meeting was organized to evaluate the achievements of the ‘Global IP Star Company Development Project,’ which supports the overseas expansion of SMEs centered on intellectual property, and to gather field opinions from companies exporting in the digital twin sector.

EYATE is a software company that holds technology converting real-world data into virtual space for simulations across various fields, including smart cities, disaster prevention, and autonomous driving. The company has registered 34 patents and, with the support of KIPO, has conducted prior art analysis and pursued overseas rights, thereby establishing domestic and international technology protection systems. During the same period, they received support for analyzing five patent maps and filing 15 international patent applications.

The meeting was attended by Kim Wanki, Commissioner of KIPO, and officials including the Director of the Industrial Property Policy Bureau and the Head of the Regional Industrial Property Division, as well as personnel from related organizations like the Korea Invention Promotion Association, Seoul Intellectual Property Center, and KOTRA. The meeting included technology demonstrations, company introductions, verification of certifications and awards, discussions on the company’s difficulties, and solutions.

Kim Wanki, Commissioner of KIPO, stated, “Digital twin technology, when converged with AI and cloud technologies, can be applied across various industries as an innovative field. The Korean Intellectual Property Office will continue to strengthen support to help innovative companies challenge overseas markets through strategic use of intellectual property to boost competitiveness.”

Going forward, KIPO plans to continue field-based communication targeting early-stage export companies and to continuously enhance policy and support systems based on corporate demand.
