The representative symbol of youth policy in Gwanak-gu, “Sillim-dong Three-room,” has found a new home and held a grand opening ceremony on March 21 after expanding and relocating.

Operating as the Gwanak Youth Culture Space of the Seoul Youth Center, Sillim-dong Three-room opened last year in August at the Daehak-dong Youth Safety Housing complex. This space, located on the 1st and 2nd floors of a youth activity space (Sillim-ro 99) with a total area of 461.44 square meters, has been expanded from a private leased facility to a district-owned space, growing approximately 140 pyeong in size, about 40 pyeong larger than before.

The first floor features an information desk and a networking lounge called “Sillim Lounge,” as well as “Sillim Kitchen,” which supports the dietary needs of single-person households. The second floor includes a counseling room, a workshop called “Sillim Workshop” for home repair and crafts, a multi-purpose content room for media projects, and “Sillim Library” as an educational space.

Attendees of the opening ceremony included Park Jun-hee, the head of Gwanak-gu, city and district council members, representatives from related organizations, and around 50 young people, all gathered to celebrate the beginning of this new space.

Sillim-dong Three-room, originally opened in 2019 as Seoul’s first youth culture space, currently holds the largest youth membership in Seoul with over 50,000 members. It was conceptualized to provide a “third living space” for young people living in cramped accommodations like one-room apartments and dormitories.

The center operates programs that reflect the needs of youth in employment, housing, and daily living, while also serving as an information-sharing and communication space through its network with youth communities.

Jung Seong-gwang, the center’s director, expressed optimism about the move, stating, “With this expansion and relocation, Gwanak-gu’s youth policies can reach even more youth,” highlighting his expectations.

Gwanak-gu Head Park Jun-hee remarked, “This expansion and relocation marks the first project in implementing Gwanak’s youth policy as South Korea’s first youth-friendly city,” adding, “Centered around Sillim-dong Three-room, we aim to create a city where youth from Gwanak, Korea, and even around the world can dream.”
