The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Police Agency, and the National Fire Agency are jointly hosting the “Overseas Incident and Accident Experience Essay Contest” to share methods for preventing overseas incidents and accidents and for crisis response.

This contest will take place over 66 days from March 14 to May 18, with a total of 16 winning entries to be selected. The awards ceremony will be held on July 9 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The contest categories include videos, Insta-toons (cartoons within 10 cuts), and written essays (including photos). Participants are Korean nationals residing domestically or abroad, and the theme revolves around experiences of incidents and accidents overseas, including tips for safe travel abroad, handling emergencies while traveling overseas, and cases where consular assistance was received.

Last year’s grand prize winner, “The Story of Full Body Paralysis by Kkamang Kong Ssack,” received significant attention for its video recounting the return home after being paralyzed abroad, with the help of overseas missions and consular cooperation centers. This video has garnered over 1.47 million views as of March 11 on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ overseas safety travel channel.

The grand prize winner will receive the Minister of Foreign Affairs Award, while the best, excellent, and encouragement awards will be accompanied by the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency or the Commissioner of the National Fire Agency Awards. Outstanding entries will be used as overseas safety travel promotional materials through diplomatic missions, public institutions, educational institutions, and social media.
