Seoul to Host Over 70 Cultural Events in City Center During May Golden Holiday

During the golden holiday from May 1 to 6, the city of Seoul will host over 70 cultural events throughout various downtown locations.

At Seoul Plaza, the ‘Haechi 1st Anniversary Fan Party’ will take place themed around the Haechi character. Participatory content like Haechi’s playroom and wardrobe will be available, and fan meetings with Haechi will be held three times a day in the lobby of Seoul City Hall.

At Gwanghwamun Plaza, the ‘Family Companionship Festival – Fun and Exciting Gwanghwamun Plaza’ will feature family-friendly programs like book talks, magic shows, and balloon art. Performances will be held across the Yukjo Madang and the entire plaza.

The outer wall of the Seoul Library will host the digital art performance ‘Signature Show’ from the 1st to the 3rd, with three performances per day focusing on visual effects using lasers and light balloons.

At Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), there will be a plethora of experience content for families and children, including the ‘Carrie TV Toy Library’ and ‘Paper Airplane Festival’, available for constant participation.

Seoul City has also prepared programs for culturally disadvantaged groups. On the 2nd and 3rd, 500 children from local welfare centers will be invited for design workshops and exhibition viewings.

‘Ya-geum-ya-gum (Night Gold)’, where Seoul’s cultural facilities open at night every Friday, will feature a special Children’s Day performance on the evening of the 2nd, with eight institutions including the Seoul Museum of Art and Seoul History Museum participating.

The Seoul History Museum will host pop opera and a string quartet performance, while the Seoul Museum of Art will have comedy mime and traditional Korean music performances. An event to meet authors is also scheduled at the Seoul Library.

On the morning of the 3rd, the ‘Seoul Stroller Run’, a stroller marathon, will be held at Gwanghwamun Plaza. A total of 1,000 teams will complete a 5km course starting from Seoul Plaza, going through Jonggak and Cheonggyecheon, and returning to Seoul Plaza.

At Nodeul Island, the ‘Seoul Circus Festival’, the largest circus festival in Korea, will run from the 3rd to the 5th, featuring circus performances, movies, experience programs, and a flea market.

At Bukchon Cultural Center, the ‘Bukchon Dorak’ event will be held from the 3rd to the 6th, focusing on family experience programs such as paper folding, drawing, and making sewn dolls.

At Namsangol Hanok Village, Taekwondo performances will occur every weekend until June, including musical-style performances.

From the 4th, the re-opened ‘Seoul Plaza Read’ will offer magic shows, opera, and an outdoor library. There will also be LEGO block experiences and family photo zones.

Seoul Grand Park will provide educational programs and performances related to endangered animals on the 4th and 5th. On Children’s Day, citizens under 13 and over 65 will have their entry fees waived.

At the Seoul Craft Museum, the ‘Generations Hand-in-Hand Craft’ event, where grandparents and grandchildren can craft together, will be held twice a day for three days.

Starting on the 5th, the ‘Children’s Garden Festival’ will begin at Seoul Children’s Grand Park. There will be 26 themed gardens, garden tours, gardening experiences, magic shows, and youth orchestra performances.

The Han River Drone Light Show will present a themed performance with 1,200 drones on Children’s Day night, with a Line Friends theme, viewable from near Ttukseom Han River Park.

In addition, various cultural programs such as the Seoul Philharmonic’s children’s concert, martial arts performances at Namsan Beacon Station, and the Dream Forest Art Center magic show will take place simultaneously across the city.

Ma Chae-sook, head of Seoul’s Cultural Headquarters, stated, “We have prepared so that family unit citizens can safely and diversely experience culture in the city center.”
