Seoul Metro has announced the recruitment of ‘subway safety assistants’ for the second half of the year. Those hired will work from July 21 to December 31, 2025.
Subway safety assistants are part of the Seoul Companion Job Project, which reflects Seoul’s policy direction of ‘Walking with the Vulnerable.’ This has been operational since 2023, with safety assistants maintaining order and conducting patrols at major congested subway stations in Seoul.
Eligible applicants are unemployed Seoul citizens aged 18 or older with no regular income as day laborers. The combined property of household members must be 499 million won or less based on the resident registration certificate. Detailed qualification requirements and working conditions can be found on the Seoul Metro website starting May 27.
Applications will be accepted on-site at designated places in Majang Station from June 4 to 11. Required documents include the resident registration certificate, family relation certificate, and job search registration confirmation. Interviews will be conducted for those who pass the document screening, with final selections announced on July 18.

The 150 selected individuals will undergo job training for two days starting July 21 before being deployed on-site. They will maintain order during morning rush hours and patrol stations at night.
The recruitment is divided into two roles: ‘Morning Congestion Safety Assistant’ and ‘Afternoon Vulnerable Time Safety Assistant.’ Morning workers will work 5 days a week, 4.5 hours a day (7 AM to noon, including a 30-minute break), and receive a monthly salary of approximately 1.23 million won. Afternoon workers will work 5 days a week, 5.5 hours a day (4 PM to 10 PM, including a 30-minute break), and receive a monthly salary of about 1.473 million won.
Salaries are based on the 2025 minimum hourly wage of 10,030 won.
Baek Ho, president of Seoul Metro, stated, “Through the operation of subway safety assistants, we are providing jobs for vulnerable groups and contributing to alleviating safety accidents and congestion within the stations. We hope for a lot of interest and participation due to the positive response from citizens.”
