Seoul is organizing the “2025 Eco-Friendly Practice Excellent Apartment Competition” to encourage energy-saving efforts in apartment complexes. The competition is open to apartments in Seoul that are subject to mandatory management and can participate if they join the Eco Mileage program.

The evaluation period runs from March to August, covering five categories: energy saving, electric vehicle charging facilities, food waste reduction, and more. A total of 26 complexes will be selected, with a total prize of 100 million KRW awarded to them.

The prize money can be used for improvements to facilities that residents can actually feel, such as replacing LED lighting or introducing high-efficiency devices. Through this, Seoul plans to spread the culture of practicing carbon neutrality in daily life.

Approximately 70% of Seoul’s total greenhouse gases originate from buildings, with apartments accounting for 43% of that. Seoul believes that participation from apartment complexes can have a significant impact on reducing greenhouse gases.

In the 2024 competition, “Hongjaeyuwonhana” in Seodaemun-gu and “Gangbyeon World Meridian” in Gangseo-gu won the grand prize, while “Doksan Jugong 13danji” in Geumcheon-gu received the highest excellence award for two consecutive years.

Seoul has announced that through this competition over the past 12 years, more than 30,000 tons of greenhouse gases have been reduced, which is equivalent to planting approximately 240,000 pine trees.
