Seoul’s Western Park Leisure Center announced on the 7th that it has signed a business agreement with the Sunset Park Citizen Group to create a zero-waste garden in World Cup Park.
The two organizations signed the agreement last May and have been promoting joint projects such as planting and managing an environmental ecological park and operating citizen participation programs at Sunset Park.
The first collaborative program was ‘Public Garden@Sunset Park,’ held on July 5 at the urban farmer’s garden at Sunset Park. On this day, the Sunset Park Citizen Group and citizens together planted chrysanthemums, daisies, and various herbs.
The plants grown in the garden will follow a resource-circulating utilization method. Chrysanthemums will be used as dried tea, herbs as pressed flowers and floral decoration materials, and switchgrass for natural crafts like besoms.

The tree nursery is a sustainable ecological space that collects rainwater to cultivate from seeds, and it is a key area for developing World Cup Park into a resource-circulating public garden.
The two organizations will continuously conduct ‘forest management programs’ until the end of the year. Institutions and groups interested in participating can apply. Additionally, in September and October, they will run the ‘Tree Nursery Ecological Interpretation’ pilot program twice. Participants will receive a tree planting kit, and registration will be available at the end of August through the Seoul Public Service Reservation website.
The future program schedule and details can be found on the Garden City Seoul website and official Instagram.
Shin Hyun-ho, head of the Western Park Leisure Center, stated, “Seoul aims to develop World Cup Park into a sustainable ecological park through ecological programs with citizens.”
