On July 17, the Seoul Metropolitan Government designated and announced Daechi Mido Apartments in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, as a redevelopment area. As a result, Gangnam-gu will support the administrative procedures, including the formation of a promotion committee for establishing the association.

Located at 511 Daechi-dong, Daechi Mido Apartments were built in 1983 and currently consist of 2,436 units. According to the redevelopment plan, the existing apartments will be demolished and rebuilt into a residential complex with a maximum of 49 floors, housing 3,914 units. This represents an increase of 1,478 units compared to the current number.

The redevelopment plan approved by the Seoul Metropolitan Government includes the installation of a three-dimensional pedestrian bridge and public pedestrian paths connecting the inside and outside of the complex. The bridge, spanning over Yangjaecheon, is designed to connect the complex with Yangjaecheon and nearby educational institutions.

The push for the redevelopment of Daechi Mido Apartments began following a D-grade safety inspection in 2014. Subsequently, a redevelopment plan was established in 2017. Despite ongoing steps such as a resident briefing session, consultations with the Gangnam-gu Council, and reviews by the Seoul City Planning Committee, the project was delayed due to modifications in the redevelopment plan scale.

In 2022, the area was selected for Seoul’s Rapid Integrated Planning initiative. In March 2025, the project gained momentum as it passed the Urban Planning Committee of Seoul’s Subcommittee for Authority Delegation.

Following the announcement by the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the designation of the redevelopment area, Gangnam-gu will support the formation of the promotion committee through a public-supported redevelopment project management service. This service includes drafting current status reports, preparing lists of property owners, holding resident briefing sessions and speech meetings, electing a preliminary committee chairman, drafting operational regulations, and applying for approval of the promotion committee’s formation.

Jisung Myung, the head of Gangnam-gu, stated, “The designation of the redevelopment area can serve as an opportunity to improve the residential environment in the Daechi-dong area,” adding that they would continue administrative support based on resident feedback.
