The district of Seongdong in Seoul is intensively promoting a ‘special crackdown on illegal parking’ around Seoul Forest starting in September.

Seoul Forest is an area that experiences severe traffic congestion during the autumn season as families and tourists flock to visit. There have been continuous complaints regarding pedestrian inconvenience and the risk of safety accidents due to illegal parking.

In response, the district has deployed specialized personnel for the crackdown in September and October, a period when the number of visitors increases significantly. The focus of the crackdown is around the main entrances of Seoul Forest and crosswalks with heavy pedestrian traffic. Particularly, vehicles equipped with mobile surveillance cameras (CCTV) are used for efficient enforcement.

Furthermore, information about nearby parking facilities is provided to vehicles awaiting entry to minimize inconvenience for residents. Owners of vehicles detected in the process of illegal parking will be immediately notified of their violations via a smartphone text alert service to prevent unnecessary complaints and encourage rapid vehicle relocation.

Jeong Won-oh, the mayor of Seongdong District, stated, “We will devote all our efforts to the special crackdown so that many citizens visiting Seoul Forest can safely and comfortably enjoy the autumn season,” and urged visitors to actively use nearby public parking lots and public transportation.
