Seoul’s Seongbuk District has announced that it will conduct autumn rabies vaccinations from October 16 to 31 for a period of 16 days.

Rabies is a representative zoonotic disease that can infect both humans and animals, with a nearly 100% fatality rate once symptoms appear. Therefore, pet dogs and cats older than three months must receive regular vaccinations.

During this vaccination period, Seongbuk District will supply vaccines for 1,800 animals at local veterinary clinics. The district plans to provide the vaccines free of charge so that citizens can raise their pets with peace of mind, and to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the region through vaccination.

The vaccination is available for dogs and cats older than three months. Dogs must be registered to receive the vaccination, while cats can be vaccinated regardless of their registration status.

While the vaccine is offered free, the vaccination procedure costs 10,000 KRW, which the pet owner must cover. The vaccinations will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis, and it is advised to check with your nearest veterinary clinic beforehand to ensure the availability of vaccines, as they might run out quickly.

Vaccinations can be received at 33 designated veterinary clinics in Seongbuk (excluding VIP Animal Medical Center). The list of clinics can be found on the Seongbuk District Office’s website under the ‘Announcements’ section, and inquiries can be made through the District Office’s Regional Economic Division.

Seung-ro Lee, the mayor of Seongbuk District, stated, “With more outdoor activities in the autumn, the risk of rabies infection through contact with wild animals may increase. We urge citizens to actively participate for the safety of not only their pets but also their families and neighbors.”
