The government aims to strengthen the domestic artificial intelligence ecosystem by securing 10,000 high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) by the end of this year, and will sequentially support these through public-private cooperation across industries and academia.

On the 13th, the government, under the direction of Minister Yu Sang-im of the Ministry of Science and ICT, held the “4th AI Computing Infrastructure Special Committee” to discuss the “Advanced GPU Acquisition Promotion Plan.” This plan will be executed through a supplementary budget of 14.6 trillion won.

The government plans to quickly purchase GPUs through a tender process with private cloud service providers (CSPs) and to establish them in large-scale clusters within data centers owned by these providers. The acquired GPUs will be strategically allocated to national projects through the National AI Computing Center.
