Samsung’s Galaxy S27 lineup may expand to four models: the standard, Plus, Pro, and Ultra, according to SamMobile, an IT news outlet, which on Oct. 12 (local time) compiled information disclosed so far about the phones expected early next year.

The newly added S27 Pro is said to offer specifications similar to the Ultra in a smaller body, but without S Pen support.

It is expected to feature a redesigned camera module, though with lower performance than the Ultra.

Samsung’s Galaxy S27 series, expected early next year, could grow to include four models.

SamMobile reported on Oct. 12 (local time), based on leaks to date, that the core S27 lineup could expand from three models to four. Including derivative models expected later in the year, the total could reach six.

This year’s Galaxy S26 lineup comprised three models—the standard, Plus, and Ultra—unveiled on Feb. 25 and released on March 11. The number rose to four with the Galaxy S26 FE Fan Edition, unveiled on Aug. 27. The thin S26 Edge was canceled after weak sales of the S25 Edge.

What kind of model is the Pro?

The S27 lineup outlined by SamMobile consists of the standard S27, the larger-screen S27 Plus, the newly added S27 Pro, and the top-tier S27 Ultra.

The standard model will have the smallest display in the series. The Plus is expected to have similar specifications to the standard model, but a larger screen. The Ultra is the top-of-the-line model and supports the S Pen.

The Pro would fill the gap between the Plus and the Ultra. It is expected to have specifications similar to the Ultra, but in a smaller body and without S Pen support.

In a report last July, SamMobile said the Pro would feature a relatively compact design, a large-capacity battery, and a high-performance telephoto camera. The Pro and Ultra may also get newly designed rear camera modules.

However, reports suggest the Pro’s camera performance will be lower than the Ultra’s to distinguish the two models. Leaker Ice Universe shared images of cases for four models: the S27, Plus, Pro, and Ultra.

The Pro and Ultra may differ in their chips.

According to SamMobile, the S27, Plus, and Pro may use Samsung’s next-generation application processor, the Exynos 2700, while the Ultra may use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chip.

The Exynos 2700 is being manufactured using Samsung Foundry’s second-generation 2-nanometer process, SF2P. Citing Korean media reports on Oct. 2, SamMobile said the Exynos 2700 had entered mass production and Samsung had increased output by more than 10% compared with its predecessor. The expansion of the S27 lineup to four models was cited as a reason for the production increase.

The chip for the Ultra has not yet been decided, even within Samsung. SamMobile reported that Samsung’s System LSI business, which designs the chips, wants the Ultra to use the Exynos 2700 as well, while the MX business, which makes the smartphones, is weighing performance, heat, and cost.

Reports have said the Exynos 2700 scored 9.5% higher than the Snapdragon in multi-core internal benchmarks. However, SamMobile noted that early scores for an unreleased chip may not tell the whole story, and that the Exynos still trails the Snapdragon in single-core performance.

This year, the S26 and S26 Plus use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in markets including the United States and China, and the Exynos 2600 in other regions. The Ultra uses Snapdragon worldwide. If SamMobile’s report from last July is accurate, the S27, Plus, and Pro will all use Exynos chips in Asia and Europe, including South Korea.

FE and Edge models could follow in the second half of the year.

SamMobile also reported that two derivative models may join the four-model core lineup. The S27 FE Fan Edition is a lower-priced model with a premium design.

The S27 Edge is a premium model focused on a slim profile and is expected to compete with Apple’s next-generation slim phone, the iPhone Air 2. Both models could be unveiled in the second half of next year, later than the core lineup.

Samsung has not confirmed the S27 lineup, its chips, or its release schedule.
