Samsung Electronics, in collaboration with Google Cloud, announced that it will equip its home AI robot ‘Ballie’ with the generative AI ‘Gemini’. Ballie is set to be launched this summer in the Korean and U.S. markets, functioning as an AI companion that supports the user’s daily life and living environment in real-time.

Ballie combines the multimodal capabilities of Gemini with Samsung’s proprietary language model to integratively process voice, video, and sensor data. It recognizes the user’s environment and adjusts its actions and responses in real-time according to the situation. For example, if a user says “I’m tired today,” Ballie can offer personalized health advice such as improving the sleep environment, suggesting exercises, and monitoring sleep patterns.

When a user is preparing for work and is unsure about their outfit, they can ask, “Ballie, how does my outfit look today?” to receive personalized style advice, including color combinations and accessory recommendations.

In addition to these features, Ballie controls lighting, greets visitors, manages schedules, and sets notifications, interacting with users through a natural conversation-centric interface.

Yong-jae Kim, Vice President of the Visual Display Business Division at Samsung Electronics, stated, “The collaboration between Samsung and Google Cloud will redefine the role of AI in households,” adding, “By combining Gemini’s multimodal inference with Samsung’s technology, we plan to implement AI companions that approach users in more meaningful ways.”

This collaboration follows the integration of Gemini into last year’s Galaxy S24 series. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian commented, “Samsung is becoming a leading example of commercializing generative AI on a large scale with the application of Gemini,” and promised to “provide enterprise-grade AI that customers can trust to more clients through this collaboration.”

Samsung and Google plan to expand generative AI-based services to a wider range of devices, starting with Ballie.
