When proctors checked candidates’ glasses before the exam, they were wearing ordinary pairs. After the test began, they switched to smart glasses. This was the conduct of candidates caught in separate university essay exams. The cases came to light when proctors noticed the change during the tests.
According to Yonhap News on the 13th, Yonsei University caught a candidate wearing smart glasses during the 2027 academic year mathematics essay exam for the natural sciences and integrated studies tracks, held at its Sinchon campus on the 10th.
A proctor reported the incident to the exam administration office, and the university confiscated the glasses. Yonsei said it would determine what action to take after investigating the circumstances.
The University of Seoul also caught a candidate switching glasses in the same way during an essay exam for its natural sciences track on the 3rd. The university immediately removed the candidate from the exam and barred them from taking its entrance exams for the next three years.
Smart glasses are among the items prohibited at the 2027 College Scholastic Ability Test, which will be held on November 19. Like mobile phones and smartwatches, they may not be brought into the exam room, regardless of whether they are used during the test. The Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation said it would provide proctors with guidance on how to identify smart glasses in October.
