The Ministry of Science and ICT (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bae Kyung-hoon) held a commemorative event for ‘Radio Industry Day’ at the Westin Seoul Parnas Hotel in collaboration with the Korea Radio Promotion Agency (President Lee Sang-hoon), the Korea Radio Promotion Association (President Hong Beom-shik), and the Korean Society of Electromagnetic Engineers (President Lee Jae-seong).
This event is one of the main events of the ‘Radio Broadcasting Industry Promotion Week,’ which runs from November 10 to 16. It serves as a venue for industry-academia-research personnel in the radio and broadcasting sectors to gather, discuss the current status and future direction of the Korean radio industry, and strengthen their commitment to collaboration.
Initially operated as the ‘Opening Ceremony of Radio Broadcasting Industry Promotion Week,’ the event was renamed ‘Radio Industry Day’ to elevate the pride of those working in the radio industry. This year, attendees included Choi Woo-hyuk, Director of the Network Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, Kim Young-gwan, Acting Secretary-General of the Broadcasting Media Communication Committee, Lee Sang-hoon, President of the Korea Radio Promotion Agency, Hong Beom-shik, President of the Korea Radio Promotion Association, Lee Jae-seong, President of the Korean Society of Electromagnetic Engineers, Ahn Soo-hoon, President of Yonhap News TV, Kang Byeong-joon, CEO of Electronic Times, and Choi Young-bum, CEO of KT Skylife.
The commemorative event started with an encouragement speech from the Network Policy Bureau Director of the Ministry of Science and ICT, followed by video congratulatory messages from Chairman Choi Min-hee of the Science and Technology Information and Broadcasting Communication Committee, Kim Hyun, Secretary of the Democratic Party, and Choi Hyung-doo, Secretary of the People Power Party. Subsequently, the Radio Broadcasting Technology Grand Prize Ceremony, the Radio Broadcasting Promotion Merit Awards, and the contest awards ceremony were held.
In the Radio Broadcasting Technology Grand Prize, GN Technologies, which developed ‘metalWave’ technology, received the Presidential Award. Hyura won the Prime Minister’s Award for their ‘Big Data·AI-based Intelligent Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Radio Jamming Detection System.’ Awards from the Minister of Science and ICT were given to Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation, BioCom, Intellian Technologies, DMS Studio, and SK Telecom.
Additionally, in the university (graduate) student thesis competition and the public awareness contest on understanding electromagnetic waves, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology’s Lee Kyu-ha and individual entrant Oh Sang-woo each took first place, receiving awards from the Minister of Science and ICT.

As a civilian award, plaques of appreciation were given to three individuals for their contributions to radio broadcasting promotion. In the Korea Radio Industry Exhibition competition, companies such as Panjin and LG Uplus were awarded. Contributors to radio broadcasting promotion included Kang Do-hyun, former 2nd Vice Minister of Science and ICT, Min Seong-man, Assistant Manager at Korea Broadcasting Corporation, and Professor Lee Il-kyu from National Kongju University in the policy, industry, and academic research fields, respectively.
Meanwhile, at COEX, a Radio Industry Conference and the Korea Radio Industry Exhibition were held concurrently. The Radio Industry Conference covered 16 topics, including the International Radio Management Forum, Satellite Radio Technology Conference, and National Defense Radio Policy Forum. In the Korea Radio Industry Exhibition, 58 companies participated, operating 109 booths for technology exhibitions and employment consultations.
The Korea Radio Industry Exhibition also featured thematic pavilions on defense radio, Wireless Power Transmission (WPT), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), as well as special exhibitions on excellent radio products and the Korea Radio Industry Innovation Awards (KRS Innovation Awards). For the innovation awards, Lumir (satellite field), Panjin (defense field), EMSYS (EMC field), LG Uplus (AI field), and BioEnergy (wireless charging field) were selected.
Choi Woo-hyuk, Director of the Network Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “Although invisible, radio waves are a key resource for digital innovation and provide the foundation for future technologies such as artificial intelligence, 6G, satellite communication, and robotics.” He added, “The government will continue to provide timely frequency and technical standards aligned with the industry’s needs, supporting the leap towards becoming a global radio leader.”
