The National Institute of Environmental Research, affiliated with the Ministry of Environment, announced on July 1st that it will host the ‘2025 International Conference’ from July 2nd to 4th at the Seoul Campus of Konkuk University in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. This event is held for the third time this year and is a venue for discussing the development plans for air quality prediction technology in the Asia-Pacific region.
The conference aims to scientifically advance air quality prediction technology and strengthen international cooperation. It is co-organized by the Community Modeling and Analysis System (CMAS) and the International Union of Air Pollution Prevention and Environmental Protection Associations (IUAPPA), and will be attended by approximately 100 air environment experts from 11 countries, including South Korea, the United States, China, Japan, Germany, and Singapore.
At the event, topics such as the integration of existing physics-based models (CMAQ) with AI-based models, data-centric prediction technologies using machine learning and deep learning, and strategies for improving the accuracy of hybrid prediction models will be presented. In addition to academic presentations, there will also be poster sessions and special sessions for students.
Sung Ji-won, head of the Air Environment Research Division at the National Institute of Environmental Research, stated, “Through this event, we hope to lay the foundation for international joint responses to air environment issues in the Asia-Pacific region,” adding that “by integrating AI technology with physics-based prediction models, we expect to advance air quality prediction performance to the next level.”
