The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 19th that it will hold the “South Korea National Symbols Design Contest” to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation Day, aiming to increase public interest in national symbols.
This year’s contest, under the subtitle “National Symbols, Shine Through Design,” will feature elements like the Taegeukgi, Mugunghwa, national anthem, state seal, and emblem, as well as other proud national images such as Hangul, Hanbok, and cultural heritage.
The contest will be divided into sections for graphic design, product design, and video design, and will be open to the general public, university students, and high school students. Submissions will be accepted online from June 2nd to 30th through the contest website. Selected works that pass the preliminary round will be submitted physically for the finals, where winners will be determined.
The awards include one Presidential Award (10 million won), three Prime Minister’s Awards (3-5 million won), and 15 Minister’s Awards (1-2 million won), with a total of 40 prizes and a total prize pool of 56.9 million won.
In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, the winning works are scheduled to be exhibited in famous galleries around Seoul. Some pieces will be produced as national holiday souvenirs and distributed to participants in government celebrations.
Director Han-Soo Kim expressed, “We hope that through the contest, the public will feel a closer connection to national symbols and that these symbols will be widely utilized in creative works.”
