The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Bae Kyung-hoon, referred to as MSIT) held a briefing session on the “Public Artificial Intelligence Transformation Project (Public AX Project)” at 2 PM on the 17th at the Gangnam ST Center in Seoul, aiming to expand AI in the public sector.
The Public AX Project is an expansion and reformation of the “Departmental Collaboration-Based AI Expansion Project” which introduces AI services that the public can feel. It is newly established through a supplementary budget in July this year to efficiently reflect the needs of each department and rapidly promote AI transformation in the public sector in cooperation with the private sector.
This project involves departments participating from the planning stage to submit AI application requirements for public services and provide the necessary data for service development. Subsequently, private companies develop AI solutions based on this data and engage in demonstration, with the results being utilized as reference cases for public service innovation.

MSIT plans to announce and select a total of 20 tasks focused on fields like welfare, healthcare, and safety, which the public can directly experience, over the next two years through the Public AX Project. This briefing session was prepared to share the purpose and direction of the project with relevant parties interested in participating, such as central administrative agencies and AI-specialized companies, and to gather questions and opinions related to task recruitment.
During the briefing session, the direction of this year’s Public AX Project and exemplary cases of AI adoption in the public sector were shared, and the opinions received afterward will be reflected in future projects.
Kim Kyung-man, Director of AI-Based Policy at MSIT, said, “The AI transformation in the public sector will go beyond the introduction of technology and will play a crucial role in public innovation and enhancing the quality of life for the public.” He also emphasized, “As the leading ministry for AI, we will swiftly push forward the AI transformation in the public sector based on public-private cooperation.”
Through the Public AX Project, MSIT intends to actively incorporate private sector technological capabilities into public service innovation and enhance departmental collaboration structures to fully realize AI-based administrative innovation.
