On the 15th, the Ministry of Environment signed a business agreement for a pilot project on paper pack collection with Kakao, CJ Logistics, Maeil Dairies, and Hansol Paper at the Hansol Paper Daejeon plant.
The purpose of this pilot project is to establish an online-based collection system for more easily and efficiently collecting paper packs used in daily life. The collected paper packs will be recycled into high-quality paper.
The pilot project will be operated from May 19 through Kakao’s platform ‘Kakao Makers’. Consumers can apply for collection through the platform, and CJ Logistics will collect them via courier. Maeil Dairies will provide participants with discounts on their products to increase participation incentives, and Hansol Paper will recycle the collected paper packs into high-value paper.

The Ministry of Environment pointed out that the paper pack collection rate had decreased from 19.9% in 2019 to 13% in 2023, and plans to enhance the convenience of collection through the online system and expand the recycling virtuous cycle structure.
Under this agreement, Kakao provides the online platform, CJ Logistics is in charge of logistics collection, Maeil Dairies offers reward benefits for collection, and Hansol Paper is responsible for recycling. The Ministry of Environment is pursuing system improvement.
Kim Wan-seop, the Minister of Environment, stated, “Even though paper packs can be recycled into high-quality paper, the collection rate was low.” He expressed his expectation that “this agreement will raise awareness of collection and contribute to improving the recycling rate.”
