LG Display has introduced an outdoor delivery service utilizing AI-based autonomous robots at its Paju plant. This is the first time an outdoor robot delivery service has been implemented in an industrial complex within Korea.

The service operates by delivering beverages from a franchise coffee shop within the Paju complex to the entrances of buildings where employees work, such as office buildings and factory units. The delivery robots autonomously travel at a speed of 1.5m/s and are equipped with obstacle avoidance functions.

The Paju complex is approximately the size of 150 soccer fields, which can make the round trip from some workplaces to the coffee shop take more than 30 minutes. The introduction of the robot delivery service significantly reduces travel time and distance, simultaneously increasing employee convenience and work efficiency.

Orders can also be placed through a mobile application. Currently, only coffee delivery is available, but there are plans to expand to other items such as hamburgers. The pilot service will be operational until the 18th, with the formal service set to commence on the 21st.

LG Display plans to gradually increase the range of delivery items and the number of operating robots by incorporating employee feedback. The company aims to accelerate improvements in the working environment through the use of smart technology.

A company representative stated, “The introduction of AI-based robot delivery is part of our digital transformation (DX) initiatives,” adding that, “We will continue to adopt a variety of technologies that can enhance employee satisfaction and productivity.”
