On the 28th, the Coast Guard announced the launch of the Wei (位) Project 2.0, aiming to improve work styles and organizational culture in the age of artificial intelligence. Initiated last year, the Wei (位) Project embodies the idea of building an organization by focusing on people. This year, it has added core values of personal respect and self-realization.
The project unfolds through three main strategies: practicing mutual respect and self-realization, shifting perspectives based on AI, improving work procedures, and strengthening boundary-less cooperation among departments. Each affiliated institution is tasked with autonomously establishing and promoting practice tasks suited to the characteristics of their region.
Last year, the project increased satisfaction with the organizational culture by 10.7 percentage points compared to the previous year. Externally, it was selected as an exemplary institution for active administration for six consecutive years.
Yong-jin Kim, the Commissioner of the Korean Coast Guard, emphasized, “The power of change comes not from advanced equipment but from the people who operate it. Creating an environment where all members are respected and can demonstrate their abilities is the core of this project.”
The Coast Guard plans to continue positioning itself as a leading institution in the AI era by focusing on digital innovation and a people-centered organizational culture.
