The Korean Intellectual Property Office announced that on July 1, it held a policy meeting with the Korea Women Venture Association at Tipstown S6 in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to discuss measures to foster women venture companies and advance them to the global market.

This meeting was prepared to address on-site intellectual property challenges and explore ways to strengthen intellectual property competitiveness to activate female ventures and startups. Women venture companies have an average of 9 years in business and 12 employees and are involved in high-value-added industries such as manufacturing, information processing, and research and development services, accounting for 76%. The average number of industrial property rights held is 7.9.

At the meeting, female venture companies suggested expanding education to enhance intellectual property capabilities, supporting the acquisition and protection of overseas intellectual property rights, shortening patent examinations in new industries and technologies, and simplifying processes for patent transfer contracts and payment of annual fees.

Sung Mi-sook, president of the Korea Women Venture Association, stated, “Securing intellectual property is the key to a company’s competitiveness,” and requested to strengthen support in the areas of patents and trademarks for global expansion.

Kim Wan-ki, Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office, said, “Women’s venture companies contribute to the creation of quality jobs and the expansion of the diversity of the industrial ecosystem,” and added, “We will continue to expand related investments to help them protect innovative ideas through intellectual property and continue to raise funds and grow.”
