The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (Director Kim Dae-ja) announced on the 2nd that it held the ‘Korea-ASEAN Energy Efficiency Technology Regulation Cooperation Program’ at the Koreana Hotel in Seoul from September 2 to 4.

The event was attended by policy officials from eight of the ten ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos, as well as around 100 domestic industry-academic representatives.

The number of technology regulations adopted by ASEAN countries was 221 last year, a 63% increase from the previous year’s 139. As of August this year, the number of difficulties experienced by our export companies was 35, significantly up from eight in the previous year. Consequently, the impact on our companies’ exports is expanding.

During the event, core energy efficiency policies such as Korea’s high-efficiency energy device designation system and the harmony of international standards with national policies were shared. Over 100 Korean companies were able to hear the latest trends directly from ASEAN country policy officials and discuss individual technical regulation issues through Q&A sessions.

Kim Dae-ja, Director of the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, stated, “This event is an opportunity to share Korea’s regulatory experience to prevent the ASEAN countries from adopting unreasonable or excessive technology regulations in advance and to support companies’ export activities. We will continue to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN to quickly resolve trade technology barriers.”
