Hangang River Bus Satisfaction Reaches 86.3%, with “Reasonable Fares” Receiving Positive Feedback

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 2nd that 86.3% of respondents expressed satisfaction in a field interview survey of 800 users of the Hangang River Bus. Conversely, dissatisfaction was noted by 13.7% of respondents.

The survey results showed a slight gender disparity in satisfaction, with 84.4% of men and 88.0% of women satisfied. By age group, satisfaction was highest among those in their 20s at 91.7%, followed by those in their 30s (88.4%), 50s (87.8%), 40s (86.3%), those 70 and older (80.8%), and 60s (79.4%).

The reasons cited by the 690 satisfied users were primarily the “reasonableness of fares” (53.2%), followed by “indoor comfort” (39.6%), “accessibility to the dock” (22.3%), and “convenience of boarding and disembarking” (18.3%).

The 110 dissatisfied users pointed out “accessibility to the dock” (44.5%) as the main issue. Other complaints included “inconvenience during boarding and disembarking” (27.3%), “lack of waiting facilities at the dock” (21.8%), and “issues with operational stability (vibration, noise, shaking)” (19.1%).

An impressive 88.8% of respondents said they would recommend the Hangang River Bus to family or acquaintances. Satisfaction with dock facilities was at 90.3%, with particularly high satisfaction among those in their 30s and 40s at 92.8%. Additionally, 94.5% expressed satisfaction with the fare system.

The primary purpose of using the service was “a special experience of moving over the Hangang River” (74.0%), followed by “viewing scenery and leisure activities” (53.0%), “reasonableness of fares” (14.9%), and “convenient travel without traffic congestion” (8.5%).

Areas for improvement highlighted by respondents included “enhancing accessibility (improving guide signs and pedestrian paths)” (35.6%), “strengthening public transportation connections” (26.5%), “advancing operation information” (15.6%), and “improving operational stability” (7.9%).

This survey was requested by the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s public relations office and conducted by the public opinion research firm Embrain Public over four days from September 24 to 26, and 28. The sample included randomly selected disembarking passengers from seven different docks, and the margin of error was ±3.45% at a 95% confidence level.
