Seoul’s Geumcheon-gu announced on the 7th that it is launching a joint public-private initiative for quarantine activities to reduce resident inconvenience caused by summer mosquitoes and pests and to prevent infectious diseases.

Throughout July, Geumcheon-gu designated Fridays as “Neighborhood Quarantine Day” where the public health center’s quarantine team and 10 district resident self-administered quarantine teams will conduct simultaneous disinfection across various regions. The spraying disinfection will be intensified in areas with frequent complaints and vulnerable spots to enhance the quarantine efficacy.

This quarantine activity involves two teams from the public health center’s quarantine team and about 100 members of the resident self-administered quarantine teams. The goal is to minimize quarantine blind spots and increase residents’ sense of safety through cooperation between residents and the administration.

The district conducts regular weekly disinfecting in areas vulnerable to quarantine, and emergency disinfection is carried out whenever a complaint arises. In areas like retention ponds, larval extermination efforts are also conducted to improve the effectiveness of the quarantine.

For facilities obligated to conduct disinfection, including multi-use facilities and residential complexes, management and supervision are strengthened to ensure that regular disinfection is conducted appropriately.

This year, an additional 17 mosquito traps have been installed, bringing the total to 116, primarily located in areas frequently used by residents such as the Anyangcheon walking trail and parks. Three additional repellant sprayers have been added, bringing the total to 11, and guidelines on their use and infectious disease prevention measures are being provided.

Residents who wish to have private property disinfected can borrow portable disinfectant sprayers free of charge until the end of October. Promotional materials and SNS content containing quarantine methods and prevention measures are also being offered to encourage participation in daily life quarantine efforts.

The district continues to operate “Visiting Infectious Disease Prevention Management Education” to raise awareness and encourage participation among residents.

Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “We will prevent infectious diseases and create a pleasant environment through intensive and eco-friendly quarantine, and we will continue with quarantines in cooperation with residents centered around the ‘Neighborhood Quarantine Day’.”
