The ‘Playground with Forest’ is part of Forest for Life’s ongoing project to create school forests. The initiative aims to transform sandy playgrounds into green spaces, thereby expanding student activity areas and contributing to urban ecosystems.

This project received support from 18 companies and citizens, including IBK Investment & Securities, HSBC, SGI Seoul Guarantee, and Kyobo Life Insurance. Forest for Life has planted a total of 1,249 trees and 4,425 herbaceous plants. Additionally, a multi-purpose field with natural grass and play facilities has been provided.

Sang-man Heo, Chairman of Forest for Life, stated, “The playground has remained virtually unchanged for the past 100 years. It is necessary to transition into an ecological space that suits the climate crisis era.” He added, “Our goal is to transform the yellow, rectangular playground into a green one visible even from satellite images.”

Forest for Life plans to explore ways to expand the ‘Playground with Forest’ as an alternative to the school closure issue caused by declining school-age population. A public forum for education stakeholders is scheduled to be held later this year.
