The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Rural Development Administration are jointly hosting the “3rd Rural Tourism Idea Contest.” The competition will accept ideas via the “Well-Chon” website until July 14.

This year’s theme is “Strategies to Revitalize Rural Tourism That Everyone Wants to Experience.” The aim is to discover creative ideas that can be incorporated into policies and projects to boost rural tourism.

This year, eligibility has been expanded from university students to the general public. This move is intended to encourage participation from various generations.

Participants are required to submit a proposal by choosing either a policy suggestion or a business or startup model. Proposals must be submitted through the Well-Chon website.

The submitted ideas will be evaluated by a panel of experts from the rural and tourism sectors. Evaluation criteria include the originality of the theme, logical development of the content, and practical applicability.

The top 10 teams will be awarded a total of 15.5 million KRW in prize money. The grand prize winners in both thesis and idea categories will also receive the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award.

In the second competition, “Well Issue in Okcheon,” which proposed a structure for mutual prosperity between Okcheon County, corporate employees, and companies, won the grand prize. This idea was adopted into policy and used to expand the rural tour pass business.

Details regarding the competition schedule and submission methods can be found on the Well-Chon portal.

Kim Go-eun, Director of the Rural Policy Division, said, “We hope that ideas from various generations will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing rural tourism.”
