The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) will conduct an Eco Driving Campaign for truck drivers from July 1 to August 31, aiming to encourage economic driving practices to save fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative is part of a policy to achieve the National Determined Contribution (NDC) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector by 37.8% compared to 2018 by 2030.

The campaign is hosted by MOLIT and organized by the Freight Welfare Foundation. It has been in progress since last year, with education conducted in July and implementation activities in August this year. Education will be divided into online video education for general drivers and face-to-face education for drivers affiliated with logistics companies. Pre-registration for face-to-face education is required from June 16 to 30.

August will be the period for implementing economic driving, which encourages reducing rapid starts, sudden stops, and rapid acceleration, minimizing idling, and utilizing coasting driving techniques. After the implementation period, data will be collected and analyzed through Digital Tachograph (DTG) devices installed in participants’ vehicles before and after the campaign.

DTGs automatically record a vehicle’s speed, driving distance, acceleration, RPM, GPS information, and more. The collected data will be used to evaluate the practice of economic driving and its improvement.

Based on the evaluation results, MOLIT plans to select five outstanding individuals and five companies for awards in October. Prizes will be divided into grand, excellent, and encouragement awards, with participants receiving fuel coupons worth a total of 4 million won.

Kim Geun-oh, Director of Logistics Policy at MOLIT, stated, “Economic driving habits are effective in saving fuel and achieving carbon neutrality. We hope that this driving culture will spread throughout the logistics industry.”

This campaign will be conducted in stages from June to October, including promotion, education, practice, impact analysis, and awards. Drivers participating in the education and practice process can be evaluated by simply submitting their DTGs without additional procedures.
