Seoul Seocho District announced on the 20th that it will conduct a special inspection of large-scale construction sites in the region that generate high levels of airborne dust, utilizing drones.
The targets for inspection are four reconstruction sites located in Seocho-dong and Bangbae-dong. Two will be checked in the first half of the year and the remaining two in the second half.
The inspection items include measures to suppress dust emissions, such as water spraying inside the construction sites and the operation of tire washing facilities. The district plans to use drones to inspect high places or interior work areas that are hard to monitor visually.
The district believes that the use of drones will compensate for the limitations of conventional visual inspections, allowing for wider coverage and enabling proactive measures against dust emissions in a short period.
If any legal violations are found, the district will take corrective actions. Minor violations will be addressed on-site with guidance, and administrative actions such as fines will be imposed on sites failing to implement dust suppression measures.
Following the special inspection, Seocho District will continue to patrol construction sites with the Blue Environment Action Group, composed of Seocho residents. This is a measure aimed at preventing airborne dust emissions and protecting the living environment of nearby residents.
Jeon Sung-soo, the mayor of Seocho District, stated, “Through precise inspections utilizing drones and the active participation of the Blue Environment Action Group, we expect to enhance the efficiency of construction site management and decrease resident complaints. We will continue to strengthen inspections using advanced equipment to create a pleasant and healthy residential environment for residents.”
