The government is set to support the production of broadcast content using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The goal is to improve production efficiency and strengthen global market competitiveness by incorporating AI technology.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it will hold a briefing session for the ‘2025 AI-based Broadcasting Program Production Support Project’ on Monday, February 17th, at Nuritkum Square in Mapo-gu, Seoul. The core of this project is to support the full integration of AI technology into the broadcast content production process.

The briefing will announce the direction, support scale, and eligible applicants for the AI-based broadcast production support project. Broadcasting companies, online video service (OTT) companies, and production companies can participate as lead organizations, and applications will be accepted from February 6th to March 10th.

This support project is divided into △drama series (long-form and medium-form) △non-drama series (long-form and medium-form) △public interest broadcasting content. Particularly, long-form dramas can receive up to 1.5 billion won, medium-form dramas up to 500 million won, long-form non-dramas up to 900 million won, and medium-form non-dramas up to 400 million won in production support.

For public interest broadcasting content, international co-production projects can receive up to 300 million won, excellent public interest programs up to 180 million won (free topic) and 170 million won (designated topic), and short-form educational content up to 70 million won. Notably, designated public interest programs will include topics related to the 80th anniversary of liberation and the 2025 APEC meeting in Gyeongju.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to support the active utilization of AI technology in the broadcast production process. AI-based technologies such as automatic video editing, voice synthesis, and translation/subtitle generation will be incorporated, and priority support will be given to projects with high potential for global expansion.

After the application submission, final selection results will be announced on April 21st following document and presentation evaluations. Subsequently, production cost adequacy review and accounting training will take place, with agreements expected to be signed by the end of April.

“As we enter the AI era in earnest, the limitations in broadcast production that were technically difficult to overcome are gradually disappearing,” said Joon-ho Choi, Director of Broadcasting Promotion Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, adding, “We will actively support the production of broadcast content that incorporates AI and digital technology.”
