Seoul’s Gangdong-gu announced that the pedestrian path “Amsa-Green Road,” connecting the prehistoric site of Amsa-dong with Gwangnaru Hangang Park, will be open to the public starting April 4.
Amsa-Green Road is an overpass-type pedestrian road created to connect the previously disconnected historic site and Hangang Park due to Olympic Boulevard. It includes a 5m wide and 272m long access road and an upper green space measuring 6,300㎡. Gangdong-gu constructed the access road, while the Seoul Future Hangang Headquarters developed the upper park and walking trails.
With the opening of this path, residents can now easily access Gwangnaru Hangang Park via bicycle or on foot by crossing Olympic Boulevard. The Amsa-Green Road is expected not only to serve as a connector of segmented ecological corridors and historical sites with the Hangang but also to become a leisure attraction where people can enjoy golden sunsets from the upper park.

This project, initially halted in 2013, was resumed and completed after a seven-year hiatus, driven by a community-led “100,000 Citizen Signature Campaign.” The significance of the project is heightened by the fact that it was re-launched through community involvement.
Gangdong-gu plans to incorporate public design that reflects the historical and cultural characteristics of the area around the access road, and to create rest areas and various landscape facilities. The district also aims to environmentally revamp the area along the riverbank as an opportunity for regional development.
Lee Soo-hee, the mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “Amsa-Green Road is a project completed with active resident participation, and it will provide a space for leisure and culture in everyday life. We will continue to promote urban spaces where nature, history, and culture coexist.”
