On the 11th, Seoul Jung-gu, in collaboration with Lotte Department Store’s main branch, held a donation ceremony for the sponsorship of refrigerators and freezers for Jung-gu’s food market. This ceremony was conducted as part of a public-private partnership project aimed at improving welfare facilities for the underprivileged in the region.
Jung-gu Food Market is an institution that delivers donated food and daily necessities to the vulnerable and welfare facilities within the region. It is operated by Yurak General Social Welfare Center under consignment.
The existing food market used sliding-type freezers, requiring users to deeply bend over to retrieve items. This caused frequent inconvenience, especially since many elderly people used the facility.
In response, Lotte Department Store’s main branch donated one standing-type refrigerator and one freezer, each worth approximately 3 million won. This support is expected to greatly improve user accessibility.
Additionally, Lotte Department Store participated in the ‘2026 Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ campaign, further donating 100 packs of 10kg rice for the underprivileged. The donated items will be delivered to the local underprivileged through Jung-gu’s resident centers.
Kim Jong-hwan, the manager of Lotte Department Store’s main branch, stated, “We are pleased to provide even a small help to those in need, and we hope that the underprivileged in the region will have a warm winter.”
Kim Gil-seong, the mayor of Jung-gu, expressed gratitude, saying, “I am thankful to Lotte Department Store for consistently practicing sharing through various activities such as kimchi sharing, outings for children in childcare facilities, and donating profits from charity bazaars.” He added, “I hope that the culture of sharing between the public and private sectors continues to spread.”
