Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced on the 5th that the project to renovate the old mural in front of Wolgok Middle School’s retaining wall located at Sangwolgok-dong 35-7 has been completed.

This project was initiated based on resident proposals received through the Wolgok 2-dong on-site district office in the second half of 2025. Residents had requested improvements, noting that the existing mural created in 2014 and 2020 had become worn and faded.

From the start of the project, Seongbuk District conducted a preference survey to actively incorporate resident opinions. A total of 228 people, including residents and students, participated in the survey, and the design chosen by 182 respondents was finalized as the final draft.

The refurbished mural spans approximately 600㎡ and is located on the school route near Wolgok Middle School. The newly painted mural represents “the colorful dreams everyone had as a child,” symbolizing students moving toward the future. The district expects it to brighten and energize the school commute route.

Seung-ro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “The retaining wall in front of Wolgok Middle School is a living space frequented daily by students and residents. The meaningful aspect of this project is that residents and students worked together to transform the outdated wall into an image supporting the future of local youth.” He added, “We will continue to promote public design projects that involve the community and incorporate local stories.”
