Seoul Seongbuk-gu announced that on the 18th, they held an opening ceremony for the ‘Seongbuk Carbon Neutral Learning Center’ and began its full operation. Attendees of the ceremony included members of the Seongbuk District Council, affiliated university representatives, and local residents who gathered to celebrate the launch of the center.

The Seongbuk Carbon Neutral Learning Center spans two floors and covers a total area of 121.3 square meters. It houses a classroom, meeting room, and administrative office. Seongbuk-gu plans to use this center as a hub to design and distribute environmental education programs for the community. The district aims to establish itself as a leader in carbon neutrality and an environmental education city through this initiative.

Going forward, Seongbuk-gu intends to collaborate with local environmental groups, research institutes, and public education institutions to run sustainable carbon-neutral practice programs. Additionally, they plan to organize environmental events and campaigns in which residents can participate in everyday life.

On the same day, the Jeongneung Market saw the ‘A Day to Take Care of the Earth’ festival, hosted by the Seongbuk Climate Living Lab. The festival featured a variety of programs such as eco mileage promotion, milk carton exchange, repair workshops, shared wardrobe, low-carbon cooking, moss garden creation experiences, and hand pan performances. Residents actively engaged in these programs, sharing the significance of environmental protection by exploring methods to reduce carbon emissions in daily life.

Seongbuk District Mayor Lee Seung-ro stated, “The Seongbuk Carbon Neutral Learning Center is expected to become a key hub leading the carbon neutrality efforts in Seongbuk,” and added, “We will expand diverse environmental education and support that residents can participate in together.”
