The Seoul Metropolitan Council’s Housing and Space Committee visited the exhibition hall of ‘Smart Life Week 2025’ held at COEX on the morning of October 1 to directly verify the latest trends and advanced technologies of smart cities.
Through the exhibition tour and forum attendance, the committee members examined the direction of Seoul’s smart city policy and its key issues. On site, after receiving a report on the event’s overview and operational status, they sequentially inspected the ‘Showroom’ introducing AI life technology, the ‘Business Exhibition Hall’ gathering smart city solutions from domestic and international companies, the ‘Global Hall’ focusing on inter-city cooperation, and the ‘Robot Experience Hall’ where the future robot industry can be experienced.
In the exhibition hall, various technologies closely related to citizens’ daily lives, such as smart mobility, climate tech, and AI care, were introduced. The committee noted that these technologies could be incorporated into Seoul’s administration and overall city operations. Also, AI-based city operation models, disaster and safety management systems, climate change response technologies, and citizen-sensory robotic services were intensively showcased and assessed as reference examples for future policy review and budget evaluation.
This site visit also served to verify the achievements of smart city exchange and cooperation with the Paris East District Government during an overseas inspection last July. Additionally, it checked the results of improvements made to address operational deficiencies identified during the 2024 administrative audit. This year’s event has been expanded to be nearly twice the size of last year and has been improved in terms of program diversity and citizen participation.
Chairman Kim Tae-soo stated, “Technological advancement should be for the people, and it should be substantially felt in real life fields such as safety, care, environment, and transportation,” and added, “We will continue institutional support and complementation at the council level so that Seoul can establish itself as a leader in smart technology.”
Chairman Kim attended the opening ceremony the previous day and visited the event venue for two consecutive days, stating during the congratulatory speech at the ‘Urban AI Forum’ held in the afternoon, “Discussions on designing AI-based sustainable city futures with cities and experts worldwide will provide crucial insights into Seoul’s smart city policy.”
Through this visit, the Housing and Space Committee reconfirmed that smart city policy must lead not just to a technology exhibition but to an enhancement of citizens’ quality of life and urban competitiveness. They plan to actively reflect this in future digital and AI policy management, supervision, and budget evaluation processes.
