The Korea Meteorological Administration’s Gangwon Provincial Office (Director: Jang Geun-il) announced that the first autumn leaves of Seoraksan Mountain (1,708m) began on October 2 this year.

This year’s start of the foliage is two days earlier than last year and four days later than the average. The foliage on Seoraksan began on October 4 in 2024, and the average start date is September 28. The start of the foliage is defined when approximately 20% of the mountain is colored from the peak. The peak foliage is when approximately 80% of the mountain is colored, which usually occurs about 20 days after the foliage begins.

The observation was conducted near the ticket office of the Seoraksan National Park. The foliage was also confirmed near the Jungcheong Shelter and from the Jungcheong Shelter view of Daecheongbong Peak. The photos were provided by the Seoraksan National Park Office.

The Korea Meteorological Administration provides the status of foliage in 21 major mountains nationwide through ‘Weather Nuri.’ You can view photos taken before the foliage, at the start, and at the peak along with a map. The service is available from September 22 to November 14, 2025.

Additionally, through the ‘Gangwon Foliage and Weather Convergence Service,’ real-time foliage conditions and weather information of hiking trails within the national parks in the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province are provided. The targeted regions include Seoraksan, Odaesan, Chiaksan, and Taebaeksan. Real-time videos of major mountains are also available.

The Korea Meteorological Administration advises travelers to check the ‘Weather Nuri’ and ‘Gangwon Foliage and Weather Convergence Service’ before embarking on a foliage trip as it will serve as useful information.
