Seongbuk-gu in Seoul signed a medical support agreement with Seoul Cheok Hospital and the Community Welfare Council in the mayor’s office on the afternoon of the 8th to support the health of social welfare workers.
This agreement was promoted to guarantee the health rights of social welfare workers working in the field of welfare to commemorate the 26th Social Welfare Day. It has been consistently pointed out that social welfare workers experience high work intensity and mental burden while taking care of the vulnerable, lacking time and resources to manage their own health. Discussions have also been ongoing in the Seongbuk-gu Social Welfare Workers Treatment Improvement Committee about the need to guarantee health rights.
According to the agreement, social welfare workers in Seongbuk-gu will receive medical support such as health check-ups and vaccinations at Seoul Cheok Hospital. Seongbuk-gu expects that the extension of health rights for workers will lead to an improvement in their quality of life, which in turn will result in a qualitative enhancement of the welfare services provided to residents.
Seung-Ro Lee, the mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “The guarantee of health rights for social welfare workers is directly linked not only to individual dimensions but also to the overall stability of the regional welfare system,” and added, “Through this agreement, we will create an environment where workers can work in a healthier and safer manner.”

Meanwhile, Seongbuk-gu plans to hold the ‘2025 Seongbuk Welfare and Volunteer Festival’ in mid-September to commemorate Social Welfare Day. The event will feature the recognition of contributions to the welfare sector and a community workshop.
