The National Fire Agency (Commissioner Heo Seok-gon), together with the Korea Water Resources Corporation (President Yoon Seok-dae), held a launch event for the joint use of the National Water Supply Information System at the Korea Water Resources Corporation headquarters in Daejeon at 2 p.m. on the 9th. This collaboration is a measure to ensure a smooth supply of water in situations where water support is needed, such as during major fires and droughts.
The National Water Supply Information System is a platform equipped with Geographic Information System (GIS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) guidance functions. The two organizations have been promoting the joint use and utilization of the system as a common task to improve disaster response efficiency.
Through this system, the National Fire Agency will be able to check the real-time locations of hydrants and water supply facilities linked to the national water supply network. This will enable field firefighters to quickly secure water and strengthen early response capabilities to large-scale forest fires or urban fires. In addition, the management of the availability of firefighting water by region is expected to be systematically conducted.
To enhance the system’s effectiveness, the two organizations will conduct practical training for about 100 firefighters nationwide on the 11th. The purpose is to support firefighters in effectively utilizing the system at disaster sites.
Park Geun-oh, Director of Response Division at the National Fire Agency, said, “With the joint use of the National Water Supply Information System, we expect to supply firefighting water quickly and efficiently at disaster sites such as major fires, forest fires, and droughts,” adding that “the two organizations will continue to cooperate to protect the lives and property of citizens.”
