The American artificial intelligence company Anthropic has introduced a new interface to its AI-based programming tool ‘Claude Code.’ This revamp is intended to improve user discomfort and increase efficiency when developers use the tool in actual work tasks.

The key feature of the new interface is its layout. Previously, the code writing screen and auxiliary tools were mixed in one space, affecting readability. In this update, the prompt input box and session management function have been moved to a sidebar. This expands the main workspace, allowing code review and editing at a glance. This change enables developers to manage multiple code sessions more efficiently.

An emphasized aspect of this update is the enhanced integration with GitHub. GitHub is a leading platform where developers worldwide store, share, and collaborate on code. Anthropic has established new procedures to ensure that Claude Code connects reliably with GitHub.

To collaborate on GitHub, users need to complete two steps. First, they must install the ‘Claude GitHub App’ and then add a GitHub workflow file named ‘Claude Dispatch’ within the project. Without completing these steps, integration between Claude Code and GitHub will not function.

Although this approach might seem somewhat cumbersome, it is actually designed to enhance security and stability. The goal is to minimize unexpected code modifications or system conflicts caused by AI tools in a collaborative environment.

Anthropic also focused on enhancing communication with users through this update. The addition of email and web notification features allows users to instantly check updates or policy changes with Claude Code.

Beyond mere convenience, this feature can be seen as a measure to prevent past issues from reoccurring. Previously, some users expressed dissatisfaction when the usage limit of Claude Code was unexpectedly reduced without notice. This notification system aims to reduce such distrust and ensure stable service use.

In March, Claude Code faced a significant technical problem when an error occurred during an automatic update of the AI tool, causing direct issues on some users’ hardware. Erroneous commands were executed, increasing the risk of system overload or collision, prompting Anthropic to respond urgently.

Since then, stability and reliability have become critical challenges in the development of Claude Code. The interface update, enhanced GitHub integration procedures, and notification feature addition stem from addressing these concerns.

The changes to Claude Code not only represent a service overhaul but also exemplify the competitive dynamics within the global AI-based development tool market. Currently, OpenAI’s ‘Copilot’ and Google’s AI coding tools are fiercely competing. Anthropic is attempting to differentiate by applying its strong conversational AI model ‘Claude’ to the development environment.

With this update, Claude Code has improved user experience and moved closer to practical development work through its integration with GitHub. However, ensuring technical stability and market competitiveness remains a challenge. Observers are keen to see how quickly Anthropic can resolve issues and build trust with developers moving forward.
