The Dongjak-gu Council’s research group, ‘Dongjak-gu Practicing ESG Research Society (Esli Society)’ (Representative Member Kim Young-rim), held a community debate on ‘Why ESG Now!’ on August 5th in the large conference room on the 5th floor of the Dongjak-gu Office.
This debate was organized to gather opinions from residents and administration on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and to discuss policy measures that reflect the regional and social characteristics of Dongjak-gu.
Prior to this debate, the research group held three resident meetings on July 22, 23, and 28. The first meeting discussed the relationship and role of resident autonomy and referendums, the second meeting focused on the activation of voting systems and community life education within apartment complexes, and the third meeting addressed practices and activation plans for Dongjak-style ESG management in daily life.
During the debate, discussions were held on ESG activation plans based on opinions gathered from these meetings. Present at the debate were Representative Kim Young-rim, Dongjak-gu Council Chairman Jeong Jae-cheon, local residents, and related public officials from Dongjak-gu Office.
The keynote address was delivered by Adjunct Professor Kang Nae-young from Kyung Hee University. The panel included instructor Kwon Geum-song from the ‘You are My Energy ESG Network’, as well as Han Il-kyu, Baek Jong-young, Park Myung-hee, Cha Yoon-sook, Shin Hyun-soon, and Cho Ok-hee.
The debate covered understanding ESG as a strategy for sustainable society, ESG measures practicable by the community and residents, and policy ideas reflecting Dongjak-gu characteristics.
Representative Kim Young-rim commented, “We listened to residents’ opinions to enhance the effectiveness and consensus of policies,” and added, “We will strive to reflect the gathered opinions in legislative and policy proposals to activate Dongjak-style ESG.”
