Bae Kyung-hoon, Minister of Science and ICT, visited the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA)’s Internet Incident Response Center to inspect the cyber threat response system in the AI era.
The Internet Incident Response Center (KISC) operates a comprehensive control center 24/7 to respond to hacking and other security incidents. It conducts tasks such as malware analysis and the protection of critical information communication infrastructure to address cyber threats.
Since the SK Telecom incident in April this year, the importance of cybersecurity has become increasingly prominent. Although the development of generative AI has led to changes across daily life and industries, cyber threats have also become more sophisticated in correlation. Therefore, a thorough response system is required.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and KISA maintain a 24-hour monitoring system centered around the Internet Incident Response Center and have established a cooperative system with related agencies, telecommunications companies, and chief information security officers (CISO) of major companies.
Additionally, AI has been introduced into the incident response system to enhance detection capabilities. In the event of an incident, prompt report reception and technical support are provided to block attacks, prevent proliferation, and support the recovery and recurrence prevention of affected companies.

Minister Bae encouraged field staff who continue cyber threat monitoring even on weekends, stating, “An AI era without cybersecurity capabilities could pose a greater threat.” He continued, “If robust cybersecurity does not underpin the process of convergence between advanced technologies such as AI and biotechnology, all bases could collapse,” expressing his intention to overhaul the national information protection system.
He also emphasized, “We will establish a cybersecurity system to support the AI era and lead South Korea to become one of the top three AI powerhouse nations,” adding, “We will actively utilize AI in all aspects of incident response.”
